Borrowing Limits

Check-out Periods for APL:   Books, Audiobooks, and DVDs - two (2) weeks

Check-out Limits for APL:     Books and Audiobooks - fifteen (15) items per card;

                                                                              thirty (30) items per family

                                           DVDs - four (4) items per family

If you currently owe $5 or more in fines, you will not be able to borrow or renew Aledo Public Library materials.

Placing Holds

You may request an item in person, by phone, or online. Placing a hold request is a great way to get items from other libraries in Parker County sent to Aledo for free, or to get in line for a popular book that is currently in use by another patron. The courier transfers materials between libraries on Tuesdays and Thursdays; if the courier's route goes to Aledo before the library owning the item, it will take two delivery days to reach us. When the item is ready to pick up, you will receive an automated notification, and its status will update to "held" in your account online.

Held items will be available on the holds shelf for at least three (3) days, filed alphabetically under your last name. Please get your item(s) and come to the front desk to check out.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items

Most Aledo Public Library items are renewable twice if another patron has not reserved them. You may renew an item in person, by phone, or online, or in most cases the system will automatically renew your items a few days before they are due. Please check your notifications and library account carefully to confirm current due dates.

When we first add a new Adult Fiction book to our collection, it cannot be renewed or requested for hold. After two months, it is no longer considered a new book, and regular lending policies apply.

Sometimes special policies apply to other collections. For example, Children's Book Council Favorites cannot be renewed or requested for hold during the active voting period. These books are shelved in a special area and can be recognized individually by the small red star on their spines. There should also be a ballot inside the front cover -- please participate in this program and cast your votes!

Library Fines

Fines for each late APL Book or Audiobook:   $0.25 per day

Fines for each late APL DVD:    $1.00 per day 

The maximum fine per APL item is $10.00 or the cost of the item, whichever is lower.

There is an after-hours book drop in the parking lot on the west side of the building. To avoid damage, please bring DVDs and oversized books inside if at all possible.

Borrowers must pay for or replace all damaged or lost APL materials -- you will be charged the replacement cost of the book and a $5 processing fee. If you choose to replace the lost item yourself with a staff-approved copy (must be the same edition/format and in excellent condition), please note that you will still be charged the $5 processing fee.
